The International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2) and the University of Calgary organized the 16th International World Wide Web Conference (WWW2007), held at the world-famous Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in Banff National Park.

The World Wide Web Conference is the global event that brings together the key innovators, decision-makers, technologists, businesses, and standards bodies shaping the Web.

Organized by the IW3C2 since 1994, the WWW conference is the annual gathering place of the international community to discuss and debate the future evolution of the Web.

Tim Berners-Lee confirmed as plenary speaker

Tim Berners-Lee

Tim Berners-Lee is the Director of the World Wide Web Consortium, a Senior Researcher at MIT where he leads the Decentralized Information Group, and a Professor of Computer Science at University of Southampton. While working at CERN, the European Particle Physics Laboratory, he invented the World Wide Web. It was there where he wrote the first Web client (a combination of browser and editor) and the first Web server. His original specifications of URLs, HTTP and HTML were widely adopted and refined as Web technology spread. In 2001 he became a fellow of the Royal Society, and more recently he received the 2007 Charles Stark Draper Prize, given by the National Academy of Engineering (US). His plenary talk will take place on Wednesday May 9 at WWW2007.

Prabhakar Raghavan to speak at WWW2007

Prabhakar Raghavan

Prabhakhar Raghavan has been Head of Yahoo! Research since 2005. His research interests include text and Web mining, and algorithm design. He is a Fellow of the ACM and the IEEE, and a consulting professor in the Department of Computer Science at Stanford University. His plenary talk on Thursday May 10 at WWW2007 will discuss the many sciences required to maximize the benefits of the Web.

Bill Buxton is one of Canada's leading visionaries on design, innovation, and creative uses of technology. His work reflects a particular interest in the human aspects of technology, and how technology supports creative activities such as design, film-making, and music. His plenary talk at WWW2007, scheduled for Friday May 11, will discuss social networking and the Web.
